Wardrobe or shelving unit0.5–1 h45 €
PAX or similar large wardrobe1–1.5 h45–68 €
Kitchen units3–6 h135–270 €
Dismantling is faster than assembly, roughly half the time. If the same item is reassembled at the new address, allow time for both.

When dismantling is needed

  • Moving: a large wardrobe will not fit through the door or into the lift
  • Replacing old furniture with new
  • Kitchen renovation — old units out before the new ones go in
  • Furniture is being sold or given away and needs to travel
  • Furniture is going for recycling
In Finnish buildings from the 1960s–70s doorways are often 80 cm and stairwell turns are tight. Anything wider than 90 cm has to be dismantled in practice.

Dismantling does not qualify for the tax credit

We will say this plainly. Dismantling and reassembling old furniture during a move is not ordinary household work and does not qualify for kotitalousvähennys (ruling KVL 51/2000).

Assembling new furniture does qualify. So if we dismantle an old wardrobe and assemble a new one in its place, the credit applies only to the second part — and only if it is a separate line on the invoice.

We always itemise the invoice so the qualifying part stands on its own line. Without that itemisation the Tax Administration grants no credit at all.

We label the parts so reassembly works

Dismantling is easy. Reassembling six months later in another flat is not, if the parts are in a stack with no markings and all the screws are in one bag.

We label panels with tape and numbers, and the fittings for each item go into their own bag taped to its parts. We keep the manual if there is one — if not, we tell you where to find it on the manufacturer's site.

IKEA manuals can be found online by article number years later. Photograph the product label before dismantling.

Taking the old furniture away

If the furniture is no longer needed we will take it away on request. In Kanta-Häme it goes either to a recycling centre, if intact, or to a Kiertokapula waste station.

Removal is a transport service, does not qualify for the tax credit, and is priced separately. If the item is in good condition, a recycling centre will often take it free of charge — ask before paying a disposal fee.

Frequently asked questions

How much does dismantling furniture cost?

45 €/hour with a two-hour minimum. A bed or shelving unit takes about half an hour, a large PAX wardrobe 1–1.5 hours. Dismantling takes roughly half the time of assembly.

Does dismantling qualify for the tax credit?

No. Dismantling and reassembling old furniture during a move is not ordinary household work. Assembling new furniture does qualify, if it appears as a separate line on the invoice.

Do you label the parts?

Yes. Panels with tape and numbers, and the fittings for each item in their own bag taped to the parts. Without labelling, reassembly at the new address takes considerably longer.

Do you take old furniture away?

On request. Intact items go to a recycling centre, the rest to a Kiertokapula waste station. Removal is priced separately and does not qualify for the tax credit.

What if the manual is lost?

IKEA and most other brands publish manuals online by article number. Photograph the product label before dismantling so you have the number.
