The mowing season in Kanta-Häme

The first cut is usually needed in late May or early June, once the grass is properly growing. The last is at the end of September, sometimes early October.

Growth peaks in June and early July: in rainy weather grass gains 5–7 cm a week. In August growth slows and the interval stretches out.

MonthIntervalNotes
Mayfirst cutwhen grass is 8–10 cm
June–July7–10 dayspeak growth
August10–14 daysgrowth slows
Septemberfinal cutleave 5–7 cm for winter
Grass is best left 5–7 cm going into winter. Cut too short it suffers frost damage; left too long it flattens under snow and develops mould.

Yard work qualifies for the tax credit

Mowing and other yard work count as ordinary household work and qualify for kotitalousvähennys. PalveMax Oy is listed in the prepayment register.

For 2026 the credit is 35 % of the labour cost, up to 1 600 euros per person, with a 150 euro own-liability. The government has proposed raising this to 40 % and 2 100 euros for 2026–2027.

Example: a seasonal contract of 15 visits at 100 € comes to 1 500 €. After the own-liability, 1 350 € remains, of which 35 % — 472.50 € — comes back through taxation. Real cost for the whole summer: 1 027.50 €.

Seasonal contract or one-off cut

A one-off suits you if you mow yourself but a holiday falls in the middle of the season. A seasonal contract suits you if you would rather not think about it all summer.

Under a contract we come at the agreed interval without a call. We do not mow in heavy rain or immediately after — wet grass cuts unevenly and leaves marks on the lawn. We shift the visit by a day or two and let you know.

  • Contract from May to September, 12–18 visits
  • A fixed weekday, so you know when we are coming
  • Edge trimming on every visit
  • Clippings collected or mulched — as agreed
  • The same contract for housing companies, scope set by site

An overgrown plot

If a plot has not been cut for a month, or all summer, the first visit takes 2–3 times longer than normal. Long grass clogs the mower, so the work is done in two stages: first the trimmer brings the height down, then the mower produces an even finish.

We tell you the price honestly in advance. Send a photo of the plot and the estimate will be more accurate than any description over the phone.

Regular upkeep is cheaper than an occasional battle: three normal cuts cost less than one clearance of an overgrown plot.

Frequently asked questions

How much does lawn mowing cost?

45 €/hour with a two-hour minimum. A typical detached house plot of 500–1000 m² takes 1.5–2.5 hours, so 90–113 euros. Prices include VAT and our own equipment. A 20 € travel fee applies outside Riihimäki.

Does mowing qualify for kotitalousvähennys?

Yes. Yard work is ordinary household work. For 2026 the credit is 35 % of the labour cost, up to 1 600 euros per person, with a 150 euro own-liability. A full-summer contract typically returns several hundred euros.

When is the first cut?

Usually late May or early June, once the grass reaches 8–10 cm. In Kanta-Häme this normally falls in weeks 21–23.

How often does a lawn need cutting?

Every 7–10 days in June and July, every 10–14 days in August. If the goal is simply a tidy yard rather than a perfect lawn, once a fortnight is enough for most plots.

Do I need to own a mower?

No. We bring our own mower and trimmer. You do not need to buy, service or store anything.

What if the plot has not been cut all summer?

We can handle it, but the first visit takes 2–3 times longer and is done in two stages: the trimmer brings the height down, then the mower evens it out. Send a photo for a more accurate estimate.

Do you mow in the rain?

Not in heavy rain or immediately after. Wet grass cuts unevenly and leaves marks on the lawn. We shift the visit by a day or two and let you know.

Do you work with housing companies?

Yes. A seasonal contract covers lawn areas, edge trimming and clipping collection to an agreed scope. Pricing is set per site.

I ordered lawn mowing for the whole summer. They come every two weeks as agreed, the yard is always tidy. No need to think about it at all.
